Let’s stop pretending that games will replace film, because they never will.
Don’t get me wrong, cinematic games have their place within the industry, but there’s a reason why they generally don’t sell as well as traditional gaming experiences. People want experiences they can pick up and enjoy without any delays; rather than having to wait for hours whilst the story gains momentum.
Don’t believe me? Look at how many people actually complete their games on PS4. Uncharted 4, for example, had only 40% of players complete its story.
Think about it; what was the last game where you wished you could explore the world on your own rather than having to stick to the game’s linear path?
I’m not saying that cinematic games should disappear entirely, I’m just fed up of watching the industry try to create movies when games are amazing in their own right. More companies should invest in creating original gameplay ideas rather than buying better voice actors.
