When Titanfall 2 was announced I didn’t even watch the trailer. I had no interest in playing yet another sci-fi shooter, I’d simply had enough of them. It was just another game in a release line-up full of identical looking shooters.
However I decided to try it after a few glowing recommendations from trusted reviewers, and I’m glad I did.
I cannot stress this enough; Titanfall 2 is a really special game.
The original Titanfall had some really clever gameplay ideas, but never really had anything else worthy of praise. No singleplayer, just multiplayer. This made it a shallow experience, even though its core-gameplay was really good.
In the sequel, though, we are provided with a proper singleplayer mode with an exceptional storyline. Whilst I expected it to be clichéd or bland, it is my favourite singleplayer campaign of the last year. It’s a story of survival, friendship, and mindlessly killing people; what more could you want?
Whilst I plan on releasing a full review for Titanfall 2, I did want to release some vague comments about the game in the meantime, just praising it for its achievements.
If you object against playing it because of your opinions of its predecessor or due to other sci-fi shooters from this year; I urge you to reconsider. This is a great game, and easily one of the best experiences of 2016.
