The iPhone X doesn’t have a home button, and that’s okay. Its OS, however, isn’t okay.
The iPhone X is very good looking. I was particularly impressed by them removing the home button; a bold design decision. That said, the way that Apple has chosen to work around the removal of the home button is ridiculous.
- To get to the home screen you now swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- To get to the control centre you swipe down from the top right hand side of the screen.
- To get to the notification you swipe down from the top left side of the screen.
This completely contradicts the existing OS, and will immediately confuse users. People will find themselves on the home screen when looking for the control panel, and load the control panel when looking for notifications; I guarantee it.
For a company that prides itself with ease of use and seamless design, this is a very peculiar decision.
