Engadget used to function as a Metacritic for technology, displaying the average reviews for products whilst also providing a cross-comparison of their pros and cons. This was brilliant, as if you were looking for any type of gadget, you could compare the reviews across lots of different devices. This helped me find the right product that suited me, and also allowed me to find lots of articles about it within one convenient place.
Unfortunately, they got rid of that function a little while ago to focus on their own articles, and I’ve been waiting for its return ever since.
They never brought it back.
I can only assume they made this change to force people into reading their own articles, rather than lots of different journalists’, or because it was too much effort. Whatever the reason, Engadget has ruined their appeal for me.
I’ll stick to The Verge from this point forth.
